Wow, they are cooool Zindra, if I'm allowed to say that at my age!!!

We had a cis female band in the eighties I liked, nothing like DatuRΛ were around so I followed and I dreamt of being one of these, The Bangles, an American band.

It was my era kinda thing. This and Manic Monday were great! These and Adam & The Ants were the best bands of the day..... I saw Adam & The Ants live before they were in the charts!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv6tuzHUuuk

Oh what the heck 'Manic Monday', ready for everyone tomorrow!!!!: I'm off work for 3 days!!!!

Hi Everyone! I noticed and have read posts from a new? user called Cherry Cola Lola, then on Capitol Gold the old song by the Kinks called Lola in 1970 came on my car radio tonight on the way to my friends... I play rummy, whist and other non-gamblingcard game stuff with very close friends on a Thursday night, hence why I am still here late after getting home.

Even though I would have written a softer, nicer polish their curious love tale, rather than having Lola sitting him on her knee and all that stuff, I still think those boys releasing it in them days was kinda brave. Here it is with subs, it's probably been played here a dozen times before....

I am new and well girls will be boys and boys will be girls, it's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, except for Lola. 8)

I'd use the term brave pretty loosely when talking about rock bands personally. This is humanities artistic endeavor that lead to some bands biting off the heads of live bats on stage merely for attention.

While Lola returned The Kinks to relevancy in the 70's no doubt and the accompanying album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One also rocked pretty hard I must say. It wasn't until they started to sing about penis transplants that they returned to irrelevancy. Coincidence?!

For the older crowd, this is my theme song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz9Pi7HfPkk

Both songs end tragically for Lola. In one she's pushed away and well that's the way that we want it to stay,
And we always will want it to be that way for our Lola.

And in another, Lola is left an insane drunk.

Still in dress she used to wear,
Faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind

Not the most ninja name certainly, I'm just asking to be clocked, but I'm pretty sure I don't care anymore. Those people that are shocked or offended needed to be, it's good for them. Cognitive dissonance can be a wonderful thing. :D

Yes, I see, well I'm no spring chicken, I'm 57 (I will pause a while whilst everyone's amazement and incredulititty abates..... lalalala lalala dada....dum..de..dum... lalalala.... Ok now? Then I shall continue...). Well, at least I got away with misgendering her!!!! Is Barry Manilow's song your theme then, it's a great iconic song. Celia xx

I'm sort of bi-curious with those two songs and will adopt either as my theme song. I feel beholden to the eye. That is, whoever is perceiving/witnessing me at the time, knows which theme song to play in their head, I just roll with it. :D

I am quite amazed you're in your 50's, no joke. I know, at least for me, makeup makes me look a bit younger and I can pass for, um, I mean I am 30 something really! Even though I consistently reference stuff indicating I'm lying and actually older than that, don't listen to your instincts on that one, trust me. So I figure if the individual "self," freewill and consciousness are an evolutionary illusion designed to facilitate the society of a very social primate than other self delusions might be useful too. :thumb:

I blame experimental neuroscience primarily. There's some shit we don't need to know or want to know frankly. :?

I think the make-up does it to me too, that photo is about three weeks or so old. I should get a theme song too, I'll have a think about it on my night shifts next week, I'll decide and post, (or it might be a repost) it here! You've set my mind on that Lola. Celia xx

So I decided my theme tune coz I remember wanting to be Sally Carr, nearly as much as I tried to emulate Suzi Quatro and MTM back in the day when I was very young. I love this song lots.

Hi Dreamin'

One of the McCreadie brothers in the band is clever with music, I can't remember which one, he even plays the bagpipes! So he probably did Marimba, but that is miming, not live in that video.

But when I was a weird, rebellious, daft, ditzy, soppy boygirl in my teens, (and apart from rebellion, my brain 'aint changed that much!), this was a song I simply adored:

Tuesday's Gone by the legendary Lynard Skynard.

Someone give me a tissue, just watched it again, so tearful!

since i'm from the Dirty South, i'm well-aware of Skynard ...known as the quintessential example of "redneck rock" here. to be fair they weren't bad songwriters/musicians, and it's terrible about the airplane incident which caused such a loss of life for the band. if i'm honest i also have to side with them w/ their Neil Young dispute 'cause he was a real tool towards them back in the day (from everything i piecemeal'd together online beginning with the Sweet Home Alabama lyrics)

i research the weirdest, most irrelevant shit sometimes ;p

Well, in that case this one's for you. I am sure I watched a film of Confederate Soldiers retreating to the sound of this on horseback and that in my youth, twas with a boyfriend at the flicks and I'm sure it was The Band's version but I may be wrong, could have been Baez's. I loved it then and love it now, controversiayal to many it maybe but I don't judge anyone by anything least of all the colur of skin and I'm totally non raciialist, it was just a sad war.

alright, well i listened to it, and i understand they essentially documented musically how it was in an individual confederate account of events back then. there's an unavoidable piece of history built-in to writing and performing such a piece; one can't simply declare it not so

from this board and p'haps other places Celia, you may understand the *intensity* of the racial situation here in the States. it's at such a regular fervor here that it's difficult for me to even listen to the song whilst understanding the historical record it presents, given how badly White Nationalists, Neo Nazis, Alt Right, and other racist scum here glom onto every single piece of Confederate material and use it in an attempt to strawman-argue their way into mainstream validity with their hatred

so i can and will only accept it for what it is, and will respectfully not listen to it again given that the feelings it invoked are not enjoyable to me

Ava Luna - Sears Roebuck M&Ms

After my GRS (or SRS or whatever, yeah, that surgery), my sister thought I needed a theme song, as if one song would cut it. Bleah. I couldn't find the perfect theme that said, "i WANT FFS SURGERY BUT THIS ONE IS AVAILABLE NOW SO HERE GOES, OH SHIT, COMPLICATIONS! pain! ack!!!" but this song was close enough, enjoy, bleah.......

A sad tale of a beautiful woman amongst the tinker clan. A true Gypsy has jet black hair and brown, almost black eyes, not like the troublesome travellers that call themselves Gypsies. This song is from Ireland and it is a lovely song.

One of my favourite bands, great sound, great presence, great view on gender roles vis-à-vis clothing/makeup. (plus my friends introduced me to the band by telling me that I remind her of the lead singer, which made me feel pretty)

Hi Lucy!

Yes, that's not a bad old song. My first thought, remembering that one, was this one that I remember adoring back when I was young.... though it was even before my time I hasten to add..... Has memories for me though! It's an everlasting one still played lots today.

I think learning to play this will be my next milestone in my guitar playing. It's got everything I look for in a challenging song: fast tempo, absurd time signature changes, interesting scales and harmony. Yeah, this is what I'm gonna work on next.

I don't know what it is about this song. I read the lyrics carefully, and it isn't really the lyrics. The context seems off for what it does to me.

Yet, the first time I heard it at the beginning of January was the catalyst for why I reversed a decision to utterly turn my back on finding a man. Because that small portion of me that wants a man heard this song, and she broke down crying. She basically told the rest of me, find me a man, or I'm quitting life.

Not sure why it triggered her. I just know she loves listening to it.

This is Elton's song Sacrifice

A nice song by a band I liked lots when I was a very young person...

Yes, a nice bit of fun to lighten the boards, after the recent despicable capture, through envy and dare entrapment, upon someone else new here upon these once nice boards, by a couple of quite horrid individuals...

Sigh, it's been soooo long since I heard those songs.
If you are verbally mean to me, I will verbally bite you back.
If you attempt to chastise me for verbally biting someone who was verbally mean to me, I'll verbally bite you too. Don't be quoting me rules either.

Hi Lesley!

Two good songs from back in the day.... I liked the Rollers 'Keep On Dancing' when it came out, their first hit. I was about 11, but it all got a bit silly after that with the screaming, shouting and tartanmania that overtook them, well shot them to Superstar status in fact.

No, I'm not a specific fan of her's, but this is my current addiction.

Listen to the lyrics and realize, she was talking about some transgender girl named Lesley just as much as she was thinking of herself at the time :)

Hi Lesley!

Yes, quite listenable surprisingly, I'd never heard it before.... yes, I am a music dinosaur!.... and I see what you mean! Not really my cup of tea musically, but like the black crew neck and pants and her make up in that bit. Celia xx

Jeannie C Riley.... the famous song. I remember once reading that she could sing fast and talk fast, so she was given this song over someone else, it made her. I do like it lots:

And with another one of your American heroines of mine, Loretta Lynn, singing a duet....

Gotta love country!
